Christmas Decorations Competition 2025

The results are in - Christmas Decorations Competition 2025.
The judging panel had a difficult task to select the top three. Throughout the village we counted 105 properties with external Christmas Lights, up 8% on last year. We visited 22 streets and thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was a real pleasure and we know a lot of work has gone in to spread good cheer at this time of year.
Drum roll please....! First on the podium, awarded 3rd prize of £40 is Ms. Nat Davenport on The Ridgeway, then our 2nd prize winner of £60 is Mr. Peter Baldam on Berwyn Close. Our 1st prize of £100 is awarded to Ms Nic Lovell on Berwyn Drive. Click here for pictures posted on our Facebook page.
It is the second occasion we have a prize winner in Berwyn Drive, on the way to being renamed Santa Street !! Special mention to the family of last years winner on Marcella Crescent who did Len proud by putting on a fantastic display again this year, in his honour.
Many congratulations from Cllr. Clare Davies (Vice Chair), Cllr. Cim Francis and Cllr Megan Rathbone who were the judges.
Special mention to thank a generous resident for suggesting this competition and again donating the 1st Prize.

The RWE information pages on the Butterfly Solar Farm can be found here :- Butterfly / Glöyn Byw Solar Farm
Just received a recently published document from RWE.  This provides an outline of how they conducted the informal consultation, the feedback received and how RWE intend to adapt their approach for the formal pre-application consultation. Click here to view.
A formal planning application is expected with another Public Consultation based on the details.  Keep checking back here for updates.

Defibrillator:

Marchwiel Community Council Defibrillator is connected to the North Wales Ambulance Circuit. If it is removed we will be notified of its whereabouts straight away and North Wales Ambulance will renew the pads and batteries when required.

Marchwiel Community Council's Burial Ground Fence and Railings have undergone restoration.

Recently Members asked that NO Dogs be allowed in the Burial Ground. We received one complaint. Recently a dog being walked by its lady owner in the burial ground was witnessed allowing it to do its 'business' on a grave. Please do not exercise your dogs in the Burial Ground. It is disrespectful to the family's grave and not acceptable to allow your dog to do this.

Play Area

Members were upset that the new 'Play Area equipment' they recently purchased on your behalf was vandalised. You might be shocked to hear that young primary aged children are to blame.

Marchwiel's Nature Reserve
This facility is maintained and paid for by the residents of Marchwiel in their Precept for the whole community to enjoy. You are so lucky to have this facility in your village..

Marchwiel's Nature Reserve - continues to be restored and updated. New information boards are almost complete which will inform you of the wildlife and plants living on site. A viewing platform will allow you to view birds at a closer distance. A Kingfisher pole is to be erected in the middle of the main pond so you might be lucky enough to be able to see a Kingfisher close up.

Completion of this work has and is delayed due to material costs increasing and the need to obtain new quotes. The boardwalks and kickboards have been repaired/replaced. Members are hoping to host an event where the Ranger would be present to give tours and explain what we have present.
